Halftilt here! I wanted to give another update on where I’m at with the Diplomacy system for New Horizons. I’ve mostly finished organizing how the sprites will update based on the player’s actions and I’m working on the gameplay portion of the system with the goal of making each encounter more challenging and immersive.
So, what do I mean by that?
Gameplay - Seduction
So what I mean by wanting it to feel more “immersive”, is that there should be some foreplay leading up to having sex with your detractor which means there should be gameplay and strategic depth to that foreplay.
I want to include an aspect of seduction to the new Diplomacy system; instead of being able to just jump into sex once Linessa is aroused enough, you’ll have to break down their defenses and get your opponent aroused too! Whether that seduction uses flirting, teasing, stripping or masturbating; however you decide to seduce your opponent is up to you!
If you decide to have sex with your opponent, the negotiation won’t end there. You’ll be able to use your negotiation skills as you’re having sex with your opponent, and they’ll be more susceptible to your “suggestions”.
I definitely want to balance this system to make sure it’s not too complicated either; my goal is to make this system very simple on the surface but also strategically deep once you understand how the systems work together.
So, you can have an “optimized” path which will make you a much more effective negotiator where you’re rewarded for making good strategic decisions versus an un-optimized path, where you can play the way that you want, but your encounters will be much more difficult but it won’t make beating the game impossible either.
Once I have a somewhat playable build of what I’m looking for, I’ll do another devstream showing off what we’ve completed. And I’ll be spending most of my time in New Horizons playtesting this Diplomacy system since it’s going to be such a huge part of the game.
Once I’m satisfied with where that system is at, I’ll be aiming to release another demo which will be focused on this new Diplomacy system and setting up the core gameplay loop.
After the next demo is released, that will be the last public/free release for New Horizons. Any future updates will only be accessible to subscribers until the game is released on Steam.
